PAEDIATRIC CHRONIC PAIN
20 – 35% of Children and Adolescents worldwide struggle with chronic pain. Chronic pain in children is any pain that persists beyond the normal tissue healing times.
The most common conditions include chronic headaches, functional abdominal pain and musculoskeletal pain.
Our Paediatric chronic pain management service is multimodal, with a team-approach, personalised treatment strategies, and family centered care.
What to expect from your appointment?
Your child’s first consultation will be a joint session with our specialist paediatrician and occupational therapist.
The aim of this session is to identify all the possible contributing factors, exclude any serious conditions and make sure your child is being optimally managed in terms of their general health.
Your child may be sent for some blood tests or other investigations.
Once the team has all the information necessary, they will then discuss treatment options with you that are tailored to your child’s needs.
The treatment plan is likely to also include interventions for you as the parent – family is critically important to successful outcomes.
If you think your child has chronic pain, contact us to set up an appointment with the team.
