About Dr Dwayne Möhr
He holds an MMed in Anaesthesiology from the University of Pretoria and a postgraduate diploma in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Management from Université de Montpellier in France.
At The PAIN Collective, he works within an interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patients whose pain has not progressed as expected.
His approach is structured, evidence-based and individualised, with emphasis on understanding the drivers of pain, improving function, and selecting the least invasive clinically appropriate treatment pathway.
His approach to pain medicine began early in his specialist career. His 2009 MMed dissertation at the University of Pretoria examined the role of and its effect on postoperative pain. It reinforced a principle that continues to guide his practice: Human lives are finite and fragile, and the experience of pain within them is significant and that pain care must extend beyond a prescription or procedure alone.
The patient’s experience, emotional state, environment, expectations and recovery goals all matter. Effective pain management therefore begins with taking that experience seriously, listening carefully, and working with patients toward meaningful improvement rather than unrealistic promises of a quick fix.
Having made KwaZulu-Natal home several years ago, Dr Möhr is proud to serve patients from Umhlanga, Durban North, Ballito and the broader KZN community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys coastal life with his wife, Mariza, and their much-loved Labradors.
